　" I need to be in love "是一首由理查卡本特、艾伯特哈蒙和約翰貝提斯共同創作的歌曲，該曲於 1976 年 5 月發行單曲唱片，隨後收錄於木匠兄妹同年 6 月發行的《 A Kind of Hush 》專輯。

　這首歌於六月進入全美百大單曲榜，最高排名第 25 名，也是木匠兄妹合唱團在成人抒情歌榜的第 14 首冠軍曲，在英國發行時最高排名第 36 名。

　1995 年，" I need to be in love "被選為日劇《未成年》的主題曲，該劇由 TBS 電視台製作，是名編劇野島伸司的「高校三部曲」的第三部，也是評價最高的一部，由石田壹成、香取慎吾、反町隆史主演。劇情描述五個未成年的青年各自面對生活中的困境，諸如愛情、友情、親情、課業....等所產生的煩惱，看似不相關的五個角色在命運的安排下逐漸產生交集，播出後擁有極高的收視率。

　取自木匠兄妹當時在日本發行的精選輯《 22 Hits of The Carpenters 》，在日本以 CD 單曲型式發行，搭配" Top of the world "做為雙主打宣傳。隨著《未成年》大受歡迎，該精選輯和" I need to be in love "也在日本大賣。

　哥哥理查卡本特表示：

　「它成為 1995 年銷量最高的專輯之一，最終達到四白金銷量，Karen 一定會很喜歡這樣！」

　木匠兄妹的妹妹凱倫卡本特因長期服藥減肥，罹患精神性厭食症。1983 年 2 月 4 日上午，骨瘦如柴的凱倫在自家暈倒，送醫後因心臟衰竭宣告不治，過世時才 32 歲。
