　" Fernando "原本是為女主唱 Anni-Frid Lyngstad 1975 年的個人專輯所寫的歌，以瑞典語演唱，由 ABBA 的經紀人 Stig Anderson 填詞。原先歌名為" Tango "，直到正式錄音前才定名為" Fernando "，取自團員們在斯德哥爾摩常去的一間酒吧裡酒保的名字，歌詞內容為費南多失去了摯愛，演唱者不斷試著安慰他破碎的心靈。

　1976 年，ABBA 準備發行成軍以來第一張精選輯，便將" Fernando "重新填上英文歌詞做為該選輯中唯一的新曲。英文版的歌詞內容和瑞典語原版截然不同，男團員 Björn Ulvaeus 回顧了當時構思歌詞內容的想法：

　「我寫過的歌都是一些小故事，" Fernando "就是關於墨西哥革命中兩位為自由而戰的老戰友的故事。

　　有一個夏夜我躺在屋外，望著滿天繁星，這個故事突然出現在我腦海裡。

　　歌詞有些陳腔濫調，我自己其實並不喜歡，內容和愛著費南多的人有關。我思考了很久，想著費南多可能會對我說些什麼？

　　我腦海裡突然冒出來一句歌詞：" There was something in the air that night "。我思考了一陣子，兩位參加過墨西哥游擊戰的老戰友在門廊外緬懷往事的鮮明意象出現在我心底，這就是整首歌要說的故事。」

　這首歌推出單曲後成為 ABBA 最暢銷的作品之一，在歐洲地區、紐澳等各地幾乎都是排行前五名，其中有十三個國家是冠軍，在澳洲曾創下十四週冠軍及連續進榜四十週的紀錄，它也是流行音樂史上實體唱片銷售超過一千萬張的四十首單曲之一。
